South Pennine Woodland Heritage have produced some excellent publications on the history of local woodlands, culminating in one called Celebrating Our Woodland Heritage. This give details of woodland use in Lancashire and West Yorkshire from the Prehistoric era through to the Industrial Revolution. The guide also details walks in two Lancashire woodlands: Redisher Woods in Bury and Roddlesworth Woods near Tockholes. To download the book for free, click here.

The website also has downloads of their archaeological survey work at Walker Fold Wood, Bolton; Townley Hall, Burnley and the Rochdale woods of Helpet Edge, Coptrod and Broad Lane. There is also much on the website to make it well worth a browse.
